Homecoming 2013 (Hannah S.)

It’s homecoming time! We’ve had an amazing spirit week. Great job to everyone who participated! On Monday we looked incredible for Thrift Shop Day, Tuesday we blinded the school with neon, Wednesday our furry friends traveled to classes with us, Thursday we brought out our sonic screw drivers and straightened our bow ties for Doctor Who Day, and finally Friday we showed our  team spirit wearing the colors of our favorite teams. Thanks  to all of you who participated and don’t forget black out at tonight’s game. Homecoming king and queen winners will be announced at half time. The queen candidates are Jessica Jantz, Olivia Colaw, Anna Goss, and Grace Stecklein. The king candidates are Bob May, Tyler Schmidt, Matt Tennent, and David Smith. I have no clue about who will win so it’ll be exciting to find out. We hope to see a good turnout at the game tonight, so everyone come out and support our boys. It’s sure to be an exciting game. Now girls something that you want to read about, the dance. Tomorrow is the homecoming dance! This year’s theme is A night in London. Student’s have been working hard to get everything prepared for a great night. Girls, we know you’ve been spending a lot of time finding the perfect dress, figuring out how you’re going to do your hair, and just getting all your plans ready for tomorrow night. All your hard work will be well worth it and everyone is sure to have a great time. The dance starts at 8 on Saturday night. Be sure to come out and be prepared to have a fun time.

One Night in London (Denshaw)

This past week the students Emperial High School showed off their school spirit in anticipation for homecoming on Saturday. We kicked it off on Monday with thrift shop day. Students donned worn, bleach and old clothing that looked ripped straight from the racks of a second hand shop. Tuesday we did a 180 as students blazed through the hallways in bright green, orange and pink outfits fit for the 1980’s.  On Wednesday we had pet but to comply with school rules students simply brought a toy of their pet or an animal they would wish to own as a pet. Doctor Who popped out of a telephone box and walked about the campus on Thursday. And on friday there was a whole lot of jerseys as everyone was supporting their favorite teams.

On Monday we had an assembly where our homecoming nominees were announced. Conner Dwight, tight end on the football team and Jenna Barakat, the debate captain. Brian Moreno, basketballer and Nicole Boyd, cheerleader. Ken Jackson, top notch guy and Brennah Kims, his girlfriend of there years. And finally Dylan Frischer, class president, and Brooke Marshal, soccer player.

This Friday the winners were announced at the football game, which we won 34-31 against Saint Agustine High. Ken Jackson and Brennah Kims were crowned homecoming king and queen for the year of 2012.

McPherson High School Homecoming 2013 (Hayden Wash)

McPherson High School has been buzzing with excitement since the beginning of September waiting for the weekend of Fall homecoming, and it finally arrived! I think everyone can agree, it will definitely be one to remember!  Before the week of the big game there was of course spirit week where the students of McPherson High strut their craziest outfits to show some extra school support. Monday started off with Thrift shop day. Kids wore there best (or most ridiculous) hand-me-downs to school and it show off. Tuesday was Neon day, a day to wear their brightest and most obnoxious clothes, Wednesday was pet day, no you couldn’t bring your favorite furry little friend to school but you can dress up as them! Thursday was a dedication to all the WhoviansDr. Who day is a day to dress up as your favorite Dr. Who character, extra points to anyone how goes retro! Friday was, of course, dress as your favorite team day! Wear your favorite sports team attire and wear it proud! Of course, wearing bullpups was not required, so many people had to go home and change into some of their Bullpup gear to head to the game on friday night to watch the McPherson Bullpups take on Rosehill. The Bullpups were down by halftime but there was a surprise guest accompanying the cheerleaders at half time to rally everyone spirits back up. Korean pop singer Psy came and proformed his hit song Gangnam Style for everyone at the game (can he sink any lower?)!  Homecoming queen and king Alex Bahr and Corbon Blomburge were named during half time as well, and after the great victory of the game the students were encouraged to head over the Night in London homecoming dance. Their was One Direction, lots of tea and crumpets, the queen of course showed up and everyone arrived in a double-decker bus just on time, judging by Big Ben’s time displayed in my middle of the of the round house floor, it was a great time!

A Night in London Homecoming

A Night in London Fall Homecoming followed a fun student spirit week at MHS. The spirit week started off with Thrift Shop Day, inspired by the song by Macklemore. Most people wore hand-me-downs from their grandparents to celebrate. The next day was neon day, a day where students could dress up in bright colors. Wednesday was pet day. The halls were crowded with students and their pets. On Thursday, our theme was Doctor Who day. Multiple people dressed up as their favorite characters from human to alien from the long running series. To finish off spirit week, Friday was favorite team day. Sports fans argued over teams while wearing their teams’ jerseys. On Friday night, the Bullpups won their football game against Garden City. Saturday night was full of dancing. The theme of the dance was A Night in London. The decorating team worked hard to make sure that it look similar to the things you would see there. The fall homecoming queen was Corbin Blomberg.
